Woven Wood Shades - your questions answered!

2/20/2020

What are woven wood shades?
Woven wood shades are the chameleon of window coverings. This type of shade adds a distinct layer of texture and they subtly complement instead of competing with the rest of your room.
Technically speaking, these shades are a classification of window blind/shade made of materials such as bamboo, straw, natural grasses, jute and other natural materials. They come in various price points but are not nearly as pricey as some window treatments.

Woven wood shades are beautiful, classic and affordable.

Need privacy?
An important note with most woven wood shades is that if you desire privacy, they absolutely must have a liner.  The open weave of woven wood shades means that you get lots of beautifully filtered light during the day, but at night privacy can be a concern. We highly recommend adding a liner to your shade. It will protect from sun damage, add privacy, and give your windows a uniform look from the street.  Blackout liners can be added for bedroom shades.  Woven wood shades can also be ordered with the top down bottom up feature. This popular lift option is ideal for maintaining privacy while simultaneously letting natural light in..

Does the color need to match other wood in the room?
No, the color does not  have to match. It certainly needs to coordinate in terms of tone, but the shade color, like all window treatments, are usually chosen to compliment, not exactly match. Sometimes it could mean coordinating in a tone-on-tone way, a complementary color or choosing high contrast.  It depends totally on what else is going on in the room.

Are woven woods too casual?
Definitely not!  If you’d like to use a woven wood shade in a more formal space, consider adding edge binding. This is strips of fabric that wrap around the exposed edges, providing a more finished, tailored look.
