Cellular shades – sometimes referred to as “honeycomb shades” – are the perfect choice for minimalist, sophisticated interiors. Cellular shades are engineered to absorb sound, trap air for energy efficiency, and reduce light gaps for a crisp, clean and contemporary appearance.
One of our favorite brands is Norman, a leader in the window shading industry. Norman has come up with an inventive adaptation called the SmartFit™. SmartFit™ shades are truly a great advancement in cellular shades.
The SmartFit™ system is engineered to provide flexibility in light and privacy control as top-down bottom-up, while eliminating the unsightly cords in the middle of the shade. Perfect for just about any window, including skylights, SmartFit™ can be mounted onto the window opening with a tight fit to minimize light leakage and to maximize privacy. When the shade is completely raised, its hardware is concealed beautifully to provide clean lines and an uncluttered look.
SmartFit™ shades are great for practically any window but we particularly love SmartFit™for French doors with their low profile fit and minimal hardware. They’re also great for tilt windows and skylights and can be mounted close to your windows with a tight fit. They can be used for both inside or outside mounts. Its adjustable cord tension system can be unobtrusively fitted to the base of the window sill that will ensure consistent and long-term shade performance.
The top-down bottom-up feature of the shades allow the effortless control of privacy – pull down from the top to stop at a desired position to have a view of the treetops or the skyline while obscuring the direct view you would otherwise have from outside; lift from the bottom to provide a conventional view; on the other hand, pull down from the top and lift from the bottom for terrific room brightening with enhanced privacy.
The SmartFit™ shades come in light filtering and room darkening fabrics and a range of beautiful colors to help you make an easy choice!

What should you consider when choosing shutters for your windows? Real wood vs. Composite is perhaps the biggest decision to make as you go through the process. Here we’ll walk you through some considerations when choosing your shutters including: price, strength and durability, as well as design flexibility. This overview will hopefully get you closer to the shutters of your dreams!.
Advantages of Real Wood – Real wood shutters tend to be more expensive but may be your best option in terms of design. Real wood can be used for larger shutter panels. Wider panels (more than approximately 30 inches) may not be available in composite shutters due to the weight. Additionally, wood can also be stained in a variety of colors. Composite shutters tend to be limited to shades of white, gray and beige. To simplify your decision between real wood and composite shutters think about which color your shutters will feature. If you would want a wood stain then choose a real wood shutter. Staining real wood allows the natural characteristics of the wood, like knots and burls, to show. However, if you like the look of paint finish and simply want traditional white shutters then composite shutters will work just fine.
Advantages of composite – Composite plantation shutters provide a middle ground between real wood and vinyl. They're made of a solid medium density fiberboard (MDF) core with a polypropylene coating to provide durability and better heat resistance than cheap vinyl/PVC shutters. Composite shutters are a little more budget friendly - they often run 10 to 20 percent less than wood. Composite shutters are more resistant to scratches and chips. In areas of the house where the windows are going to be subjected to moisture or steam, such as bathrooms or kitchens, real wood can warp, crack or flake. In this case, composite wood would make the most sense.
Which is better for energy savings? It’s a tie between wood and composite! Both types of shutters offer energy-saving benefits. Keeping your home more energy-efficient with plantations shutters on your windows saves money on your heating and cooling bills.

What are woven wood shades?
Woven wood shades are the chameleon of window coverings. This type of shade adds a distinct layer of texture and they subtly complement instead of competing with the rest of your room.
Technically speaking, these shades are a classification of window blind/shade made of materials such as bamboo, straw, natural grasses, jute and other natural materials. They come in various price points but are not nearly as pricey as some window treatments.
Woven wood shades are beautiful, classic and affordable.
An important note with most woven wood shades is that if you desire privacy, they absolutely must have a liner. The open weave of woven wood shades means that you get lots of beautifully filtered light during the day, but at night privacy can be a concern. We highly recommend adding a liner to your shade. It will protect from sun damage, add privacy, and give your windows a uniform look from the street. Blackout liners can be added for bedroom shades. Woven wood shades can also be ordered with the top down bottom up feature. This popular lift option is ideal for maintaining privacy while simultaneously letting natural light in..
Does the color need to match other wood in the room?
No, the color does not have to match. It certainly needs to coordinate in terms of tone, but the shade color, like all window treatments, are usually chosen to compliment, not exactly match. Sometimes it could mean coordinating in a tone-on-tone way, a complementary color or choosing high contrast. It depends totally on what else is going on in the room.
Are woven woods too casual?
Definitely not! If you’d like to use a woven wood shade in a more formal space, consider adding edge binding. This is strips of fabric that wrap around the exposed edges, providing a more finished, tailored look.
Woven Wood Shades are a striking addition to any room, they deliver both texture and warmth and can be either formal or casual. If you have windows that need new shades, consider woven shades for a beautiful and textured look. Call LC Window Treatments at 628-400-1665 for free in home consultation!
If you’re looking for a timeless and affordable window covering for your bedroom, kitchen, or den, then roller shades may be a great option for you. While these shades may appear simple, they are actually much more versatile than you think. Roller shades offer numerous benefits to the homeowner, including:

Whenever I move to a new home, the very first thing I do is hang curtains in the living room. A quality set of drapes adds color and warmth and makes the empty space feel instantly like home.
It's no secret that a well-dressed window can make or break a room's look, but if you don't know the basics, then styling your windows with drapery can be difficult. But it doesn't have to be! Follow these three simple design rules to turn those boring windows into focal points.
#1 HANG YOUR CURTAINS HIGH AND WIDE
Make your windows look larger and more luxurious by hanging drapes at least 12 inches above the window frame or all the way to the ceiling and extending your curtain rod out three to six inches on each side. Drapes that rest right above the frame not only shorten the window but let in less light.
#2 LAYER YOUR WINDOW TREATMENTS
Designer windows almost always sport at least two window treatments — whether it's a roller shade, wood blinds, or plantation shutters framed by drapes. Layering window treatments provides both functionality (insulating qualities as well as blackout for better sleep) and style, turning the window into a design focal point. Imagine the window above without the white drapes. It would be boring!
#3 TAKE DRAPES TO THE FLOOR
A common mistake novice decorators make is hanging curtains without first measuring the height of the wall. For a tailored look, drapes should puddle slightly or hover one quarter to half-inch above the floor. Don't stop your curtains at the windowsill.
While the three simple rules mentioned above are good to keep in mind when dressing most windows, they aren't hard and fast. Trust your instinct when styling small or tricky spots and remember that, ultimately, a window treatment is meant to treat light, noise or temperature based on the needs of the space. Here at LC Window Treatments, we want your home to look and feel at its best, which is why we offer custom drapery along with a variety of other window coverings. We proudly serve Sonoma, Santa Rosa, Napa and Marin County as well as San Francisco. Contact us today to see how we can transform your windows into a beautiful focal point.
We live in a day and age where technology has taken over. We have mini-computers at our fingertips and the ability to talk to a computer and actually have it respond. (Thanks, Alexa.) Embracing technology in the home can change your lifestyle significantly. Here are some reasons to add motorized blinds and shades to your home.
#1 Wake up to sunlight
Do you have to wake up at 6 AM sharp during the week? You probably want your bedroom to stay dark as possible throughout the night and right up until you have to begin your day. There’s no need to turn on the lights–your motorized blinds can be programmed to your schedule to let in that glowing morning light. By the time you’ve had your coffee, you head upstairs, and your bedroom has transformed itself. Your top down shades have lowered themselves just enough to invite in the natural light while still giving you the privacy you need to get yourself ready. And the weekends when you want to sleep in? That can be saved differently in your settings so your motorized blinds don’t move until you want them to.
I’m sure the idea of sleeping in on the weekends sounds blissful…especially if you have children. Room darkening motorized blinds and shades can help. Trying to put them to sleep at bedtime? Want them to sleep later in the morning? How about reducing nighttime wakeups? Blackout shades can be a lifesaver towards better sleep for your entire family. And, motorized blinds and shades can help make life so much easier. You’re in control of the atmosphere at the touch of a button. Tired of trying to wrangle your teens out of bed for school? Schedule your shades to get their day started. As the sun starts rising, they can, too.
#3 Enhanced Home Security
Motorized shades can be a part of a complete home automation system which means that you can even control your shades or blinds remotely. Or you can program your motorized shades to move up and down throughout the day at timely intervals, as it will help you create that impression that your home is always occupied even if you are hundreds of miles away from home.
#4 Energy Efficiency
Motorized blinds and shades are perfect for the energy efficiency they can offer. While motorized blinds certainly are a boost to your home’s aesthetics, they also provide real energy-saving benefits. During the wintertime, for example, you can use honeycomb shades within an automated system that roll down once you leave for work and rise when you arrive home so that you can enjoy your view. Honeycomb cellular shades are extremely effective at insulating the heat that is attempting to escape your home through windows. That way, you don’t have to spend as much on warming your residence during the cold season. When the temperatures once again warm up your blinds help reflect UV rays so that your home stays cool no matter how warm it is outside.
Ready for Motorized Blinds to Simplify Your Life?
Motorized blinds are a great addition to any home. You can personalize the settings and feel comfortable knowing you have complete control. Our team at LC Window Treatments is here to answer any questions you may have—especially if you’re unsure about technology! Call us to set up a free, in-home consultation. We can’t wait to simplify your life!
A Traditional Feel for an Elegant Look
Do you love your house, but wish it had a touch of tradition to it? Something that would transform a room from nice to elegant? Then choosing plantation shutters will be one of the greatest interior design decisions you will ever make! The genuine wood slats of our plantation shutters will create a cozy, traditional atmosphere that you will enjoy for years. In fact, our shutters guarantee both beauty and longevity with its quality craftsmanship and sturdy slat build. Whether you choose genuine hardwood for your shutters or a gorgeous composite material that looks like the real thing, your home will have a boost in elegance when you add our plantation shutters to the mix.
Excellent in Efficiency
Of course, there is so much more to plantation shutters than just beauty. When you are choosing plantation shutters, you are actually choosing a window treatment that looks great and offers an excellent amount of energy efficiency to your home. Plantation shutters usually have louvers that are wider than your typical shutter. This will provide more coverage against the sun to keep your house cooler throughout the day.
Additionally, double-hung plantation shutters offer more light control to help you achieve a comfortable home. This will reduce the need to reach for the thermostat and face high energy bills each month. This is especially useful in the hot summer months. Shutters even have insulating capabilities to keep your home warm in the cooler months as well. Plus, since plantation shutter louvers are wider than normal shutters, you will not have to worry about glares interrupting your movie nights or time spent on the computer. We call that a win-win.
Boosts the Value of your Home
There truly is no place like home. However, it is understandable that moves happen. From job offers in different cities to moving closer to the right school district for your kids, your first home is not always your forever home. Fortunately, choosing plantation shutters means you are choosing to help your home sell in the future. In fact, plantation shutters are evergreen when it comes to popular home aesthetics. This will help boost the value of your home to help achieve a satisfying sale. From curb appeal to inside appeal, you are sure to get compliments from future home buyers! Plus, our team of experts can help you find the perfect measurements for shutters in your new home, so you never have to be without them.
There are many beautiful window treatment options out there. Stunning shades, darling draperies, and many more. However, if you have always had a love for a traditional style, energy efficiency, light control, and the ability to add value to your home, then there is no doubt in our mind that shutters are the best option for your home. Some people rely purely on expensive furniture or other furnishings to establish a particular feel to a room, but there are many ways that your windows can affect the overall atmosphere in your home as well. If you want to help create a sophisticated and elegant feel in your home, choosing custom Roman Shades is a great choice. Your home can also feel cozy and warm no matter how rainy or gray it gets outside by adding some softness to your windows. Roman Shades allow you to get creative with how you express your own personal style as well thanks to plenty of custom options we offer at LC Window Treatments.
Roman Shades come in a surprising diversity of styles, ranging from traditional to more modern styles. One reason you’ll enjoy having custom Roman Shades on your windows is that they provide similar benefits as curtains but are a great drapery alternative due to their sleeker profile. If you want to dampen sounds in your home, Roman Shades can provide a pleasant effect, making your home peaceful and calm. Roman Shades also provide a way to dress your windows with elegant woven fabric to put your stylish designs on display, only in a sleek shade option instead of hanging drapery.
We offer several styles that each create a distinct effect on your windows. The Classic Roman Shade style features woven seams that create a beautiful texture when you have your shades down. This option is especially cozy and works ideally for solid colors.
The Flat Roman is another traditional styled Roman Shades that appears flat when completely lowered, mimicking the look of a roller shade. This design also provides a great canvas to include creative print patterns. You can see the elegant fabric folds when you raise these shades to let light in your home.
The Relaxed Roman Shade style is also flat when lowered, but maintains subtle folds at the bottom for some added dynamic texture and softness. This elegant style manages to blend an ornate look and a contemporary feel at the same time.
The Soft Fold Roman Shade, also known as “hobbled”, is a traditional style that consistently mimics the look of rolling folds of drapery with the cascading layers of fabric. This option is perfect for achieving an especially sophisticated look while also dampening sounds throughout your home. This look is also well-complimented by adding a valence to the head rail.
By choosing roman shades, you open yourself up to tons of possibilities for your windows. There are hundreds of beautiful colors you can choose from so you can land on just the right option. There are also plenty of artistic print patterns available as well. And by choosing your preferred opacity level, you can further choose how your shades affect the lighting in your home.

Gorgeous Light and Exceptional Privacy
When it comes to choosing woven wood shades, you are choosing more than just a shade. In fact, you are choosing a shade that offers exceptional light control, light filtering, and privacy. In fact, natural woven shades include a variety of fabrics, weaves, and natural fibers that filter sunlight throughout your living space beautifully. The slight gaps in the weaves leads to beautiful patterns of sunlight that gently dance across your home for a light, airy feel.
You can also add a light-filtering or room-darkening liner to your woven woods to up the ante when it comes to light control. For example, light-filtering liners will gently disperse harsh sunlight to every corner of your room to light up the space naturally. On the other hand, room-darkening liners work to block incoming sunlight. This makes them perfect for media rooms, bedrooms, and other areas that benefit from an extra dose of shade.
It goes without saying that the function of a shade is important. However, style is equally as important when choosing woven wood shades. After all, a shade can be the finishing touch or statement piece of a room! Luckily, our woven wood shades are created with style in mind. For an organic look, natural woven shades are sure to deliver. Crafted from natural woods, reeds, grasses, and bamboos, these beautiful shades bring an organic feel to any room they are in.
